The curse is still strong. After work today, I had to drive straight to West Palm Beach (from North Miami). In rush hour. It was raining. Ugh. So, my plans were to go to Anthony's place to add more memory to his 'puter, and install the wireless NIC in his kid's PC (needed a Win98 CD), then head over to Ayman's to see what is wrong with his network, he said he is having problems copying files or something. Shouldn't be so bad, right? Ahh, HA! *thud*

   So, I get there with my box-o-RAM, and the stupid thing takes only DDR memory. Trip to Office Depot. Put memory in, it works fine. Whew, one step down. Now, boot up Win98 machine to install the USB wireless adapter. It has errors on boot. Stupid thing. Plug in device. Wants win98 CD. I don't see it in my CD case! ARGH! Start downloading CABs on the other machine from home to burn to CD. Finally find Win98 CD buried in my case and cancel download. I install what is needed, and the wireless just sits there dumb. Yup, 98 was screwed. Tried a Win98 upgrade. Couldn't find a non-OEM key (his was an OEM key). Okay, tried an XP upgrade since the machine turned out to be a 900 with 256M RAM (after I added some from my stash). Upgrade failed. Retry. Refail. Screw it - format, reinstall. Works. Computer is faster than ever. Fine. Install USB wireless again. It sees no network again. Add, readd, remove, realter settings dozens of times. All of a sudden, it works. WOOHOO! Browsing CNN and all. Then, I do something stupid. I reboot. That was the last time I saw the network. Fought for hours trying to get it to work again. On this PC, my laptop, his laptop. Nope. All I could see was the neighbor's access point. I even caught some other names now and then - must have been distant nodes that got in range temporarily. Tried different channels and everything. Finally gave up just before midnight. Will try again another time. Ayman? Oops. Maybe another night next week. *grin* So, I got home not long ago, and I need to get to sleep so I can have a few hours before waking up for work again and starting the cycle over. Sometimes, I just HATE computers!
