While I am still in my holding pattern waiting to hear about future employment, life does go on. I was asked by a friend of mine to help relocate his server from his current colocation facility, which is currently, and abrubtly, moving its datacenter to Miami and Atlanta, and in the process giving the boot to all its colocation customers. So, I agree, and we set out to retrieve his server, as well as the legendary tower who finally got an upgrade. This transition was relatively quick and painless. Pickup, dropoff, reconfigure, online. Just a few quirks in finding all the locations where new IPs needed to be specified, and a network that was not configured with the new IP range when first plugged in. No problem. Well, this was all fine and dandy, but back to the old datacenter, back in Davie. It is always sad to see a datacenter stripped down, serving no more. But what of all this wonderful equipment? Well, said friend made some phone calls, and was able to secure us a few racks as well as some nice APC2200 UPSs for a fair price. Most excellent! So, for my services of helping relocate a machine who was being promptly evicted, I get to upgrade the Asperwood datacluster with a new UPS and rack! Sometimes, some things do go right...

Well, here I am, 7 months since I have worked... Having been mostly ignored by every resume/application I have sent out there into the void. Now, 7 months later, I have three prospects looming head-to-head. Well, I would really have to say two are leading, but there are three possibilities facing me at the moment for possible employment. One would be for a CLEC in Miami. I interviewed down there for what looks to be a very promising position. However, there is that daily drive off the end of I-95 through Miami traffic. Besides, I have not heard back from them in over a week despite their telling me I would hear from them one way or another in a few days. Maybe the phones are not working, I am subscribed to their CLEC. :) Next, is a Jr. Systems Administrator position for a large webhosting company in Boca Raton. Much closer. Junior position though, but in exactly what I am good at. Also, this company would be a great way to get into the door where opportunities open up to those on the inside. It's been a while since I had my 2nd interview, and have not yet heard back. Lastly, there is the internet billing company right down the street from me. I would have not worked so close to home since Publix. This position is a sales support engineer, and it sounds like it would be very promising. Very exciting. I just had my telephone interview with another SSE in CA, and that went well. I am scheduled for my on-site interview tomorrow at 2pm. So, decisions, decisions. Which to take? I don't know. Given the way things have gone in the past, I do not want to tell anyone "NO" until I have an offer of solid employment, that's for sure. So, I will just have to continue to collect information and weigh my options, but I know that the time is coming soon where I will have to decide who I want to work for so I can say "yes" or "no" when they make an offer. And furthermore, who will make the offer first? I cannot afford to decline one to have the other not make an offer. We'll see... [more]

I found this little tidbit of information while surfing the web. It is so true, I decided to pass the information along...
Did you know?

Well, an old friend of mine, Robin, called and wanted to stop by to say hi with her boyfriend and son. Sure, it would be nice to see her again, and meet her BF who is also into computers. No problem. Her son, Eddie, started to terrorize the house, so we decided it would be best to run to McDonalds to feed him and let him tear them up instead. So we did, and managed to eat dinner without major incidence. On the way back to my place, we notice a kid zipping around the neighborhood on one of those gas powered skateboard scooter things. Not very safe.. He was only about 6 or 7. She was driving, and not being too familiar with my neighborhood, going very slow. As we get around the corner of the street next to me, the kid comes flying past the corner right in front of her truck! Screeech.. Thump. Whimper. Yup, he got tagged. He is okay, she stopped just in front of him, and just knocked him off the scooter, and knocked the scooter over. No apparent dammage to anyone or anything. Still, the police came and paramedics checked out the kid. Noone got fined, as it all turned out okay. Quite a bit shaken up though. I dont know if the parents got in any trouble or not, as those things actually are illegal.. (well, USING one is illegal, not owning it, but that's another argument) And at that, life goes on...
